The production of needle coke is realized on the basis of delayed coking, using variable temperature operation, increasing the circulation ratio and prolonging the coking period.
Our company is currently preparing the production base of needle coke. Needle coke is a porous solid with silver-gray appearance, metallic luster and obvious flowing texture, and is divided into two types: oil-based needle coke and coal-based needle coke. It is a raw material capable of producing high-end carbon products such as ultra-high power electrodes, special carbon materials, carbon fibers and their composite materials. The main production processes include, but are not limited to, the combined thermal cracking-coking process, the combined common coke-needle coke process, and the delayed coking unit production of needle coke. The combined thermal cracking-coking was first applied, mainly using thermal cracking residue as raw material for needle coke production. The combined common coke-needle coke unit can produce a large amount of circulating oil, in which the heavy aromatics in the circulating oil are high-quality raw materials for producing needle coke. The delayed coking unit generally needs to adopt variable temperature operation and increase the circulation ratio to meet the needs of production. Using proper raw materials and processes to produce needle coke, the production of ordinary coke is much the same, but the operating conditions are extremely harsh.
